Did you know? 1 in 7 Moms and 1 in 10 Dads suffer from postpartum depression.
You are not alone. You are not to blame. With help, you will be well.
Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) including depression and anxiety around childbirth can affect ANY childbearing woman, regardless of race, income, culture, age or education. It doesn't matter whether your baby is born healthy, or whether you've had prenatal medical help or taken childbirth classes. Breastfeeding does not cause a PMAD. Even if your marriage is happy and you've had previous babies, PMADs can occur with a new baby. Postpartum depression strikes without warning. It brings guilt, misery and helplessness at a time that you thought would be one of the happiest of your life. You expected to feel confident and wonderful. Instead, you feel cheated, confused and depressed, or even on the brink of despair. It's not uncommon to also feel guilty or ashamed of yourself. You are not alone, you are not to blame, and with help, you will be well. Please call your healthcare provider and/or reach out to us for support and resources.
